Visiting the website

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver the pages securely, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. This is necessary to run the website and protect it against attacks (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.

We also count how often the donation buttons are clicked, a bank account number is copied and the thank-you page after a donation is reached. Only the type of action, the day, the page language and the country (derived from the connection, not stored as an address) are recorded. No IP address, no cookie and nothing that could identify you is kept. The totals go into a monthly report for our board (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Visitor statistics

We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count page views and understand which content is read. Umami does not use cookies, does not create personal profiles and does not store your full IP address. The service is Umami Cloud, run for us by Umami Software, Inc.; the data is not shared with anyone else (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Contact form and e-mail

When you use the contact form or write to us, we process the details you provide: your name, e-mail address, message and, if you apply for membership, your postal address. We use them only to answer your request or to handle your membership, patronage or subscription to updates (Art. 6(1)(a) and (b) GDPR). The form is sent to our mailbox by e-mail through Resend (Resend, Inc., USA), which delivers the message on our behalf as our processor under a data processing agreement and keeps it only as long as needed for delivery. We keep your message as long as needed to handle it and delete it when it is no longer required, unless we must keep it by law.

To protect the form against spam we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks whether a request comes from a person. It does not use cookies for tracking.

Videos

Some stories contain YouTube videos. Until you press play, the page only shows a preview image stored on our own server, and no data is sent to YouTube. When you press play, the video is loaded from YouTube (Google) in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube then receives your IP address and technical data, and Google’s privacy policy applies.

Donations

Online donations are processed by PayPal. When you click a PayPal button you leave our website, and PayPal’s own privacy policy applies. For bank transfers we receive the details your bank passes on with the transfer. We use donor data to thank you and to issue tax receipts, and keep it as long as required by accounting law.

We publish every donation in our donor register. Your name appears there only if you have agreed to it, shortened to first name and initial (organisations appear in full); otherwise the donation is listed as anonymous.

Our pages link to other websites, for example Facebook, LinkedIn or PayPal. We have no influence on how these services process data once you visit them.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Write to contact@reliefandreconciliation.org.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), dataprotectionauthority.be.
