Special Call: Akkar Summer School 2022
![]() The “Akkar Summer School of Spiritual Solidarity” is almost becoming a tradition at the R&R Peace Centre in the North of Lebanon. It offers an interesting combination of theory and practice – we call it "diapraxis" – by merging academic lectures with research groups and implementation of a solidarity project uniting the youth of different local communities.
This summer of 2022, we are repeating the experience with a new topic line: “Religion and Human Rights in Syria and Lebanon”. As in previous years, we are inviting academics as well as practitioners of interreligious peacebuilding and humanitarian aid from around the world to join us and reflect together on the future of Syria and the concept of spiritual solidarity. Besides theory, participants will be living and working at the R&R Peace Centre and directly be involved in implementing an innovative approach in response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon. As part of our ethos to bring people together, they will combine forces with local volunteers in organising and implementing the programme’s activities. ![]() At our Peace Centre in Lebanon, we are welcoming throughout the year dedicated men and women who are motivated to gain a unique experience helping refugees in the field.
Living and working at our Peace Centre in the North of Lebanon, 12 km from the Syrian border, volunteers are directly involved in implementing an innovative approach to assisting the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon. As part of our ethos to bring people from different backgrounds together, our international volunteers combine forces with local teachers in organising and implementing educational and recreational activities for children and adolescents of Syrian refugee and Lebanese host communities. Despite the difficult conditions in Lebanon, we have stood our ground since 2013 and we have welcomed international volunteers every year since then, also in times of Covid-19 and civil unrest. The youth we serve is in need, today more than ever. We apply special precautions not to spread the coronavirus and keep our volunteers safe and secure, but we continue operations. We are recruiting international volunteers for the following categories

We ask for your understanding that we have to stick to a couple of criteria for the selection of our volunteers at the R&R Peace Centre in Lebanon. Most notably, we have to insist on the minimum age and on some experience in the work we do. However, even if you do not fulfil the criteria to be selected as a volunteer at the R&R Peace Centre, you can support our mission from home by becoming an Associate Member of R&R International.
We do not have any overhead staff. All those supporting our work abroad are volunteer members. Also your help is needed. Here some ideas of what you can do:
For joining R&R International as Associate Member, please fill out the contact form on this website and please tick the box to accept our values and norms. We will try to reply to your application within a couple of weeks. Testimonials on our volunteer blog
Since our establishment in 2013, more than 150 international volunteers have lived and worked at our Peace Centre in the North of Lebanon.
You can find some of their testimonials on the blog space that is managed alone by our volunteers. Read some unfiltered voices from the humanitarian front: |
