Daily classes for more than 500 students in 2023/24
One of the significant challenges faced this year was the suspension of transportation aid by the UN, which left many unable to afford the daily cost of getting their children to school. R&R thus stepped in by offering bus services to and from public schools for those participating in specific educational activities. This critical intervention ensured that no child misses out on learning due to financial barriers.
Beyond basic education, we also expanded our English classes, offering different levels to accommodate students from beginner to advanced proficiency. These classes were invaluable in helping them gain confidence in another language, a skill that will serve well in both academic and professional settings. What’s more, like in the four previous years, we provided intensive Baccalaureate preparation classes, which saw every single participant passing their final exams - an incredible achievement that highlights the dedication of our students and the hard work of our teachers.
Recognising that education goes beyond the classroom, we reintroduced Computer literacy and Programming courses, equipping the participants with useful digital skills. Additionally, our Sewing lessons were brought back, with sewing machines made available during specific hours. These vocational training programs empower students, providing them with practical skills that can improve their future employment opportunities. Meanwhile, our Football training sessions continued to thrive, with three girls' teams and two boys' teams fostering discipline and teamwork.
Of course, none of these achievements would have been possible without the steadfast commitment of our volunteers, staff and local teachers. That very passion combined with the generosity of our donors, has allowed R&R to continue providing these essential services and making a tangible difference in the lives of the youth of Akkar, for over eleven years now, without missing one single school day.
